Ellis Island

Ellis Island

For me Ellis Island represents Hope. Hope of many people for a better future, with expectations that were maybe not met, but it all started there. The place where each person first stood, carrying in their hearts the hope of being able to achieve their dreams and goals.

I think it could also be called Island of Hope

  1. We New Yorkers often think of Ellis Island, too. My grandparents immigrated through Ellis Island, and now the National Park Service has made shipping records available through the Ellis Island website so Americans can find out exactly when their ancestors arrived here. Maybe next year they will re-open the Ellis Island museum, which was destroyed by Hurricane Sandy.
